What does it mean to hang papers on a dog?

Hanging papers on a dog is a process that has been around as long as dog breeding has.

Hanging papers is falsifying information on registration papers. Falsifying information include but not limited to; what stud was used and as far as registering dogs that are not even offspring that come from papered parents. To making entirely fake papers. There is a lot of people creating fake registration papers in hopes of snatching a higher price for their pup.

This is a very frustrating process for anyone trying to keep healthy and pure lines. As it is almost impossible to prevent without the use of DNA.

What to do if you suspect a breeder of hanging papers?

Ask for DNA testing, this has became an industry standard in dog breeding.  Another helpful tip is to check directly with the registry to ensure all information lines up and is accurate.

The best way to avoid this is going with a reputable breeder with a trusted background of honest breeding practices.
